Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) fresh green beans, trimmed and halved (or 3 cans, drained)

  • 1 can (10.5 oz / 295 g) condensed cream of mushroom soup

  • ¾ cup (180 ml) milk

  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional, for depth of flavor)

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded cheddar cheese (optional but adds creaminess)

  • 1 ½ cups (150 g) French fried onions, divided

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Prepare the beans:
  • If using fresh green beans, boil in salted water for 5 minutes, then drain and rinse with cold water to stop cooking.
  • Make the sauce:
  • In a large bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, pepper, garlic powder, and half of the fried onions.
  • Stir in green beans and cheese (if using).
  • Bake:
  • Pour mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Bake uncovered for 25 minutes, until hot and bubbling.
  • Add topping:
  • Sprinkle remaining fried onions over the top.
  • Bake for an additional 5 minutes, until the onions are golden and crispy.
